Atlantis
Atlantis is a legendary island nation first described by the Greek philosopher Plato around 360 BC in his dialogues Timaeus and Critias. Described as a naval superpower that sank into the Atlantic Ocean after falling out of divine favour, it serves as an allegory for the dangers of hubris . As apocryphal as this story may seem, intriguing new research placing Atlantis in the Azores as a part of a pre Ice Age civilisation suggests the myth may yet contain a kernel of historical truth
