On Thursday, February 19, 2026, President Donald Trump announced he had authorized the Pentagon and other federal agencies to begin collecting all government files related to UFOs and UAPs, reigniting global speculation about possible disclosure.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump said he had directed the Secretary of War and other departments to begin “the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters,” before signing off with: “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
The announcement follows comments attributed to Lara Trump, the President’s daughter-in-law, who told The Hill she had heard Trump already had a speech on aliens prepared and “ready to go at the right time.” That remark alone was enough to fuel fresh speculation that something bigger may be in the works behind the scenes.
Further intrigue was added this week when former President Barack Obama said that “aliens are real,” before clarifying that he had never seen one and did not believe there were alien bodies stored at Area 51. He later walked the statement back, explaining that he meant the universe is so vast that life almost certainly exists somewhere beyond Earth.
When asked to respond to Obama’s comments, Trump was blunt. “Well, he gave classified information. He’s not supposed to be doing that.”
Pressed by reporters on whether that meant aliens were, in fact, real, Trump replied, “Well, I don’t know if they’re real or not. I can tell you he gave classified information. He’s not supposed to be doing that. He made a big mistake. He took it out of classified information.”
